Area Law Enforcement
Around 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.
Police state they were notified late on Wednesday, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.
Law enforcement then discovered numerous other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement report preliminary tests show the fluid was likely human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; officials are currently not cognizant of any physical harm in association with the incident," they stated.
Municipal representatives stated they were working "to solve the case" and have appealed to the community for details.
A senior official said the attack made him without words and needed to be addressed rapidly.
"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on online, referring to the killing of nine people by a shooter focusing on residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
