19 of the Russian's twenty-one titles have been earned on hard courts

A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The athlete, a former number one, has had a challenging season, winning just one win at the big events and experiencing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

His unpredictability on the professional circuit - and issues with his serving in particular - resulted in him exiting of the world's top 10 and eventually separating with former trainer his previous coach.

Presently training with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, he has gradually improved in the recent weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over challenger Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's maiden championship after the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard surface from that period of that year.

Success also indicates he has achieved twenty-one titles at 21 distinct events.

"For the first time I'm at a event with my two daughters at once, so to win a trophy is particularly special," commented tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had been defeated in his previous six title deciders, comprising in the German tournament previously this season.

The player's defensive play style and regular reactions on the tennis court had prompted some to question if his ability to play at the elite level was finished.

But the player has altered his approach in recent weeks, attempting to advance forward and play aggressively, reinforced by an improved serving game.

He fought back from a deficit in the opening set against the tricky Frenchman, winning 4 of the last five points to go ahead.

The pair exchanged breaks in the following set before the challenger, bidding for his maiden professional championship, seized the initiative to push for a third set.

Moutet saved four early-game opportunities in a tight final set before the Russian secured a break to 15 to serve for the match.

Suitably, he clinched victory with a rally at the front of the court, with his opponent unable to manage a volley after a lengthy match.
